Photography Assignment: Place

Guidelines: Make a collage out of 6 photos that explore the idea of a "place". You can think of place in the sense of geography, buildings, space or even state of being. Put an emphasis on developing a creative style or approach to the place.

Tips: Investigate photography styles, from fine art to documentary.

Media: Any type of camera you wish to use is welcome. Think about how the type of photography you are using can be incorporated into the overall work of art. For example, if you are exploring a Victorian house, think about using film instead of digital. If you are exploring somewhere grungy or dirty, think about using a disposable camera. The collage can be digital or real. If you are working with physical prints, think about incorporating an interesting frame or framing method.

As always, be creative! & remember to link me to your works :)

Reminder: Examples

Just a reminder, if you finish any of the projects, remember to send me a link so that I can post your beautiful work for everyone else to see. There are no deadlines for any assignments so don't feel like you can't work on an older piece just because we've moved on to something new. This could be a valuable resource for some critique to help improve, or just a chance to show off your skills :)

Happy Art-ing

Metaphor & Landscape: Example

My metaphor is "Love is War" "Plenty of fish in the Sea" & "Pursuing your Dreamboat"
The sea is a collage of text from peoples' profiles on the website, plentyoffish.com

This is a WIP still. The bottle cap for example is just because I couldn't render drawing one yet :P

Sculpture Project: Example

Here is my work in progress!
Its me as a giraffe, haha :) I suppose I identify with this gorgeous creature because I'm tall, but to be honest the real reason is because my favourite Pokemon is Girafarig, lmao. I tell people, "What part of a bipolar, psychic Giraffe doesn't describe me?"
Also he's lying down because he's lazy like me, tehehe.

Hope you like him so far! Keep working on your own :)

Sculpture Project: Animal Self Portrait

Guidelines: Sculpt an animal that represents you! Make it a minimum of 9" in at least one dimension. This animal can be abstract, realistic or a combination. The animal you choose can be from fantasy, it can be a bird, mammal, fish, insect or even something microscopic. The choice is up to you! Be sure to explain what characteristics you share with the animal or the sculpture you make of it.

Media: Plasticine, clay or any other mouldable

Video Project: Symptoms Montage

Guidelines: Find a disease, whether mental or physical and illustrate it through a series of clips that create a montage. This can be done to music, silence or spoken word.

Media: Any quality will do. Perhaps some grain will add to your work, or perhaps you want it to be crystal clear HD quality. The choice is yours! Use your digital camera, a camcorder, your cellphone or even make an animated slide show.

Body Proportion & Distortion Example

An example submitted by Jaymie K.

Her work incorporates distortion of the skin in order to convey a meaning of vulnerability, exposure and femininity. Amazing job!!

Drawing Project: Body Proportion & Distortion

Guidelines: Create a self portrait, in which you dramatically alter the size or form of one of more body parts. Use of perceived distortion, such as foreshadowing is equally as valid as fantastic modifications or warping of the figure. You can add meaning to your work if you wish or it may remain a solely aesthetic piece.

Media: The drawing material of your choice. Graphite, Charcoal, Coloured Pencils are common examples

Be sure to post a link of your finished drawings, in the comment section below.
